ALLIPHA

We’re fuelled by innovation and creativity. On The Edge celebrates local creatives and their unique talents. To celebrate the launch of our On The Edge campaign, we sat down with our featured creatives to talk to them about the importance of their work. Remember their names, remember their come up.

Through strong vocals and charismatic lyricism, Melbourne’s own ALLIPHA is the new vintage.
Projecting soul and honesty into her work, ALLIPHA is a musical powerhouse. On the back of releasing her debut EPThings I Didn’t Say in November, we asked ALLIPHA a few questions about her music, empowerment and inspiration.

How would you describe your music in three words to someone that’s never heard you?

Soulful, honest, vintage.

What does it mean to you to be able to control a crowd?

I’m not sure control is what it feels like, it’s more connecting with people. It’s super special. There’s been shows I’ve played with a really small crowd but it’s been my favourite because I felt really connected to that audience.

When do you feel most empowered

I feel most empowered when I feel good in my outfit. Clothes have always been an absolute love of mine and I never leave the house in something I don’t feel awesome in. Even around the house I have to love what I’m wearing.

On your latest EP,Things I Didn’t Say, you’ve got a song calledEye. What’s it about?

Eye is about feeling betrayed by a friend for a boy. Classic.

If you had to choose, would you leave your hometown forever or stay in your hometown forever?

Leave my hometown forever. Can’t wait to get out of there. Sorry.

What is your favourite album of all time?

Malibu by Anderson .Paak. It’s the biggest inspiration for me. First time I fell in love with the musicality and instrumentation rather than melody and lyrics.

What are some things you do to practice self-care?

Meditation, although I really need to do it more, and affirmations. As daggy as they are, they’re my super power.

What’s your 2020 vision?

Write with as many people as I can. Create my next body of work.

Who was your Spotify Wrapped Top Artist of 2019?

Tom Misch -- dreamy.
